Hi, I’m Sasha.
I offer therapeutic coaching and psychotherapy to adult individuals online. I support my clients through their unique journeys of self-reflection, making sense of difficult situations and experiences, emotional healing, and understanding and dissolving blocks to personal fulfilment.
Why psychotherapy?
There are many reasons why people may seek out a psychotherapist. Some may be struggling with specific mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, or stress, while others may be looking to address more general feelings of unhappiness, dissatisfaction, or lack of purpose. Some may be looking to improve their relationships, to cope with major life changes or transitions, or to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences.
Others may be looking for support in exploring or integrating their spiritual beliefs and experiences, or to find meaning and purpose in their lives. Some may be seeking to improve their self-esteem and self-worth, or to develop better communication and coping skills.
Ultimately, the reasons for seeking psychotherapy are as unique as the individuals themselves, and it’s important to find a therapist who is able to understand and address your specific needs and goals. Whether you are looking to resolve a specific issue or to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the world, a psychotherapist can provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your feelings and experiences, and to work towards greater self-awareness, well-being, and fulfilment.
“You became who you needed to be in order to survive. Now it’s time to become who you need to be in order to thrive.”
My approach is integrative, drawing from Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and spiritual (non-religious) approaches to mental and emotional health. My practice is grounded in the principle that people are all created inherently OK. Early emotional and practical experiences of family and cultures help people to form a frame of reference through which life experiences are understood. This frame of reference, together with an inherent sense of Self, shapes the way people think and feel about themselves and others, and how we operate in the world.
I believe that the journey of emotional healing, self-discovery and personal growth is not only about addressing and resolving emotional and psychological issues, but also about connecting with one’s Self in a spiritual sense. I see psychotherapy and coaching as collaborative processes that help individuals to explore and understand their selves, and to increasingly embody the attributes of spontaneity, autonomy and intimacy that lead to healthy functioning in life.
I believe that the process of psychotherapy is inherently experiential. Therapy or healing happens through the client-therapist relationship. I aim to help my clients move out of coping or survival mode, and to re-ignite and nurture a sense of inner OK-ness from where they can reclaim their healthy autonomy, spontaneity and intimacy, creating and living the life they intend.
Why therapeutic coaching?
Navigating intricate challenges, both in professional and personal life, can be hard work. Being the conscious architect of one’s goals, experiences and life path can be difficult when one doesn’t know where to begin. Therapeutic coaching can help.
Coaching helps people to understand their values, uncover and transform limiting beliefs, and recognise personal strengths. Coaching can further help people to set goals, formulate a plan, and provide motivational support through encouragement and accountability.
“The future isn’t written in stone – it’s written in the imagination. What are you imagining?”
My therapeutic coaching method encourages clients to set clear and achievable goals while emphasising their existing strengths and resources based on an understanding of the client’s personality. TA offers a theory of personality and is further useful for understanding the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. This helps clients identify and work through relational patterns that may be holding them back. Shamanic Counselling adds a unique dimension through the incorporation of ancient wisdom and spirituality into the coaching process.
My therapeutic coaching offering is personalised to each of my clients’ individual needs and preferences, in support of their quest for personal growth and transformation. My approach is integrative and holistic, drawing from the potency of Solution-Focused Brief Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis (TA) psychological education, Shamanic Counselling, and the timeless wisdom of Sankofa. Clients have the choice of whether to incorporate shamanic elements.
I hold a safe and creative space for my clients to gather the wisdom of their life’s experiences and use this to explore ways to move through current challenges. Clients are also encouraged to reflect on their history and heritage, using this wisdom to inform their understanding of the present experiences. The shamanic aspect introduces a more profound and spiritual dimension, allowing clients to connect with their inner Self and access higher guidance, wisdom, strength, nurturing and healing. Shamanic Counselling is also a precision tool for gaining clarity when setting intentions and goals. The integration of these modalities enables clients to address psychological, relational, and spiritual aspects of their well-being and life experience, resulting in a more holistic and powerfully transformative therapeutic coaching journey.
Psychotherapy and therapeutic coaching share an emphasis on healing and freedom that comes with re-connecting with the parts of one’s Self that got left behind as a result of difficult or traumatic experiences, integrating one’s personal and ancestral histories, and using this wisdom to inform one’s continuing life path.
How are psychotherapy and therapeutic coaching different?
For people not feeling ok and seeking support for mental health or emotional wellbeing – for example stress, anxiety, depression, or bereavement – psychotherapy is the more appropriate intervention. Psychotherapy is more focused on healing from past experiences, with the intention of helping a client to become more ok in the present.
Coaching is more appropriate for clients who are mentally and emotionally ok, and would like to “level up” or raise their personal bar in terms of life experience but are not sure how or where to start. They may already feel satisfied in many aspects of their life, but notice something is holding them back from the fulfilment of certain goals; or they may want to become even better at what they already do well. Coaching tends to be future-focused, starting from a place of ok-ness in the present and helping the client to define, plan and achieve future successes.
Therapeutic coaching, also called personal consultancy, is an intentional and considered blend of these two disciplines. It is appropriate for coaching clients who are open to incorporating emotional healing work into their coaching journey. The deepened personal awareness and emotional growth that comes with therapeutic coaching makes this intervention appealing to clients on a journey of lifelong learning.
What is Shamanic Counselling?
Shamanic Counselling is a therapeutic approach that draws from the ancient wisdom and practices of shamanism worldwide. It helps people connect with the spiritual and energetic dimensions of life. My practice includes shamanic journeying, which is similar to guided meditation. This allows clients to access inner and higher wisdom, connect with power animals, guides, and explore their Soul’s journey. Shamanic counselling can provide a unique and deeply spiritual perspective, addressing not only psychological but also transpersonal aspects of a person’s well-being, making it well-suited for those seeking a spiritually-oriented approach to therapy and coaching.
